The 2021 Australian Energy Statistics (AES) shows that 24% of Australia’s electricity came from renewable energy sources in 2020, which is set to reach 70% by 2030, driven mostly by solar PV installations. As those solar PVs generate electricity only when sun shines, BES is expected to play a critical role to meet the energy-demand at night, especially when electricity consumption peaks. AES data shows that the uptake of BES in Australia is very slow and lags severely the incremental generation of electricity from renewable sources every year.
